This cocktail comes from Idlewild (@idlewildbar) in Charlotte, North Carolina. I came across it through Frederic Yarm (@fredericyarm), who found the recipe in a set of Idlewild’s online recipe flashcards. Yarm suggests it may be a variation on the Too Soon, swapping Cynar and orange for Amaro Montenegro and cucumber. It certainly follows a similar bitter sour structure, but Montenegro takes things in a softer, more citrusy direction alongside the gin, lemon, and cucumber. A pinch of salt helps pull everything together and makes this a pretty simple combination with a lot going on.Cheers y’all!

Muddle the cucumber slices with simple syrup in a shaker tin.

Add remaining ingredients.

Add ice and shake until chilled.

Fine strain into a chilled coupe.

Garnish with a cucumber slice.
