About
This mint julep riff is by Barlow Gilmore (@theweekendmixologist). I have heard the julep be described as the bright and refreshing cousin to the old fashioned. Here, we take that to the tropics by swapping out whiskey for cognac and a high ester rum and adding pineapple.Cheers y’all!

- 1½ oz · 45 mlcognac
- ½ oz · 15 mlfunky Jamaican rum
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlpineapple gum syrup
- 2 dashesAngostura bitters
- 8–10 mint leaves
- powdered sugar to sprinkle on top
Method
- 1
Add mint to glass and gently press against sides to release oils.
- 2
Add remaining ingredients and pack with crushed or pebble ice.
- 3
Stir until cup is frosted.
- 4
Top with more ice to create a dome.
- 5
Garnish with a bouquet of mint and sprinkle of powdered sugar.
