This is a riff on the 1937 classic Lion’s Tail cocktail. Frederic Yarm (@fredericyarm) came up with this variation when inspired by the maple syrup and allspice combination. The touch of smoke comes through nicely and is a nod to the process of preparing maple syrup.Cheers y’all!
Ingredients
- 1½ oz · 45 mlrye whiskey
- ½ oz · 15 mlallspice dram
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlsmoky scotch
- ¾ oz · 22.5 mlfresh lime juice
- ½ oz · 15 mlmaple syrup
- 2 dashesAngostura bitters
Method
- 1
Add all ingredients to shaker tin.

Add ice and shake until chilled.
- 3
Strain into coupe or Nick and Nora.
- 4
Garnish with lime twist (optional).
