This cocktail was created by Sam Ross (@samueljoelross) at Milk & Honey in 2009 as a variation on the older Country Life. That drink appeared in Crosby Gaige’s 1944 Standard Cocktail Guide with bourbon, Jamaican rum, port, and bitters, and closely resembles the much older Suburban. Ross swaps the port for sweet vermouth and adjusts the proportions, bringing it closer to a Manhattan while keeping the rum in the mix. The bourbon gives it structure, while the Jamaican rum adds just enough funk to make it stand apart.Cheers y’all!
Method

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.

Add ice and stir until chilled.

Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick and Nora.

Express orange peel oil over the surface.

Garnish with an orange twist.
