Last week, Jordan Hughes (@highproofpreacher) shared this Old Fashioned riff using Sotol, which is a spirit distilled from Dasylirion wheeleri (desert spoon), a wild plant native to northern Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert. It’s not agave, but its own thing: earthy, grassy, and bright.Cheers y’all!
Ingredients
- 1½ oz · 45 mlsotol
- ½ oz · 15 mlNixta elote liqueur
- 1 tsp · 5 mlgrenadine
- 5 dashesAngostura bitters
- 2 sprays habanero tincture to finish
Method

Add all ingredients to mixing glass.

Stir with ice until chilled.

Strain into a glass over a clear BFC.

Spray habanero tincture over the surface.
- 5
No garnish*.
