Created by Jim Meehan (@mixography) and John Deragon (@jpder) for PDT (NYC) in 2007, Newark is a Brooklyn-inspired riff built when rye supplies were running low. Bonded apple brandy replaces the usual whiskey backbone, while Fernet and maraschino bring bitter, herbal, and subtly sweet layers. The combination is bold, boozy, and worthy of the city that inspired its name.Cheers y’all!
Ingredients
- 2 oz · 60 mlbonded apple brandy
- 1 oz · 30 mlsweet vermouth
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlFernet Branca
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlmaraschino liqueur
Method

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.

Add ice and stir until chilled.

Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick and Nora.
- 4
Garnish with a maraschino cherry (optional).
