About
The Painkiller originated at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands in the 1970s and is generally credited to owner Daphne Henderson. The drink actually predates Pusser’s as a commercial rum brand, and early versions are often described as being made with Cruzan rum. Pusser’s founder Charles Tobias later reverse-engineered his own version around the now-familiar combination of rum, pineapple, orange, and coconut, and Pusser’s trademarked the Painkiller name in the United States in 1989. The trademark became especially infamous in 2011, when Pusser’s took action against the New York tiki bar Painkiller, which ultimately changed its name to PKNY. This version uses a blend of rums and a little less pineapple than the familiar Pusser’s 2:4:1:1 build, but keeps that classic combination of pineapple, orange, coconut, and freshly grated nutmeg.Cheers y’all!
