This cocktail was created in 2012 by Ted Kilgore (@tedkilgore) at Taste in St. Louis, Missouri. It was featured in Gary Regan’s 101 Best New Cocktails 2012. The rye and mezcal give it a smoky, spicy backbone, while the amari bring bittersweet orange and herbal depth. The elderflower softens the finish with just a little floral lift.Cheers y'all!
Ingredients
- 1½ oz · 45 mlrye whiskey
- ½ oz · 15 mlmezcal
- ½ oz · 15 mlAverna
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlAperol
- ¼ oz · 7.5 mlelderflower liqueur
- orange peel oil
Method

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass.

Add ice and stir until chilled.

Strain into a chilled coupe.

Express orange peel oil over the surface.
- 5
Garnish with an orange twist.
