About
This cocktail first appeared in Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel, Casino Royale, as James Bond’s signature order. The original called for gin, vodka, and Kina Lillet, a quinine-forward aperitif that has since been reformulated, so Cocchi Americano is often used as a modern substitute. I used to order Vespers a lot early on in grad school, and I still think it is a fun Martini variation. The aperitif and lemon oil brighten the drink while it stays very much spirit-forward. As with any cocktail, serve it how you like, whether that means shaking or stirring.Cheers y’all!
